Kalon Women, Harley’s Angels Of Houston, Rally For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 17, 2009
Ferndale, WA (PRWEB) October 6, 2009
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kalon Women, the fastest growing women’s community online for women over 40, is showcasing the Harley’s Angels of Houston in the October issue of Kalon Women. The Harley’s Angels, a group of 100+ women who ride Harley Davidson motorcycles, volunteer to raise funds for breast cancer research through their annual “Cruzin to Cure” campaign in the Houston area.
Kimen Metzger, a charter member of the Harley’s Angels , and a breast cancer survivor, states that the Harley’s Angels raise up to $ 60,000 each year to support breast cancer research through calendar sales (featuring pictures of the Harley’s Angels on their bikes), a poker run, and other activities. To date, the group has contributed over $ 450,000 to breast cancer research programs. Recipients of funds include Baylor College of Medicine and U.T.M.D Anderson in Houston, Texas.
Sandra Levitin, co-founder of Kalon Women, states that “no woman or man is untouched by breast cancer.” Levitin, whose Kalon co-founder, Joanne Mates, died of metastatic breast cancer in 2006, is devoting the October 2009 issue of the magazine, to inspire women and men who are facing breast cancer. The October issue will feature stories of courage, love and hope from breast cancer survivors, as well as healthy recipes from the Kalon Kitchen, and lifestyle changes that reduce breast cancer risk, seven ways to protect oneself from swine flu. Kalon Women will also be launching a 3-D Art Gallery, the first ever of its kind.
Says Levitin, “Kalon Women is now the fastest growing community on the web for women over age 40 because we provide resources and support for ‘real women who are dealing with real issues,’ and having to deal with breast cancer is unfortunately a very real issue for too many women.”
States Metzger, “10 percent of the members of the Harley’s Angels have personally experienced breast cancer. Another 90% have supported a loved one who has breast cancer. We are grateful to have Kalon Women and its members nationwide who are standing by our side. We will not quit until women no longer have to fear losing their lives or their breasts.”
The Harley’s Angels will join the Pink Ribbon Tour, Saturday 10/17/2009 at the Texas Dragon Boat Regatta for Breast Cancer Ceremony from 2:00-4:30 PM in Sugarland, Texas. Later that day, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, they will join the Pink Ribbon Tour at Noel Furniture, 2727 Southwest Freeway, Houston.
About Kalon Women
Says Levitin: “Kalon is a Greek word that means ‘beautiful.’ Kalon refers to the beauty that one finds on the inside. We support women on their journey to discovering their own inner beauty. Most women’s communities on the internet support women only in building a business, but we support women in building a life.”
The Kalon Women’s website, magazine and radio show Kalon Women in Business provide resources and support for women to handle hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause, as well as help in dealing with aging parents; fashion and beauty tips; poetry; life stories; art; women’s events; recipes; business tips; and much more.

Harley-Davidson Helps Divas Put The Brakes On Breast Cancer
Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) June 20, 2008
Harley-Davidson Motor Company is proud to announce its participation in the third annual Divas For A Cure (DFAC) Annual Cross-Country Breast Cancer Motorcycle Run. Hundreds of motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts will make their way to Atlanta, Ga., to kick off the event on July 19. The annual motorcycle run is organized by DFAC, a service-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising cancer awareness through early detection, education, screenings and supporting research for eradicating cancer. Last year DFAC raised $ 50,000 for breast cancer research. The organization is looking forward to reaching a target of $ 100,000 from this year’s ride. The DFAC motorcycle run is scheduled to take place from July 16 to Aug. 6 with donations presented to the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center – Nellie B. Connally Breast Center.
Along with Harley-Davidson attendees, the ride features the “Divas” including Founder and President of the organization Jan Emanuel-Costley, Vice-President Aj Coffee, Cynthia Marcy and Elaine Thomas. Road captains will accompany the “Divas” from the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers & Troopers Motorcycle Club. The DFAC run will include “Meet and greet” events at various participating Harley-Davidson dealerships along the route where people will have the opportunity to make donations or register to ride. The “Divas” are also scheduled to participate in a VIP tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum on July 22 guided by Curatorial Director, Jim Fricke. “We are very excited to have Jan Emanuel-Costley and her supporters tour our exciting new museum. Similar to Jan’s commitment and passion to bring awareness to breast cancer, we are just as committed to support great efforts like the Divas For A Cure ride and other community-focused initiatives,” said Jim Fricke.
The 6,000-mile ride is scheduled to depart from Brown Mills, N. J., to official kick-off city of Atlanta; Atlanta to Canada; Canada to the National Bikers Roundup in Pennsylvania; down the East Coast; and finally returning back to Atlanta. The meet and greet dates will begin following the initial departure from New Jersey. More details on the route are available online at http://www.DivasForACure.org. The riders, featuring the “Divas” and members of the Buffalo Soldiers & Troopers Motorcycle Club, will make their first meet and greet appearance July 16 in Greensboro, N.C. “Our mission is simple. Breast cancer awareness and early detection is key to survival. I am living proof. We are simply ordinary women trying to do extraordinary things to impact the lives of women in our community, and change the image of women in motorcycling. We are committed to the cause until there is a cure,” said Jan Emanuel-Costley.
The DFAC motorcycle run includes stops at various Harley-Davidson dealerships where the “Divas” hope the community will show their support by making a donation to the cause, registering to ride with the group to the next city or to support their efforts. Harley-Davidson dealership stops include:
Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, Greensboro, N.C. (July 16)
Harley-Davidson of Clayton County, Morrow, Ga. (July 19)
Harley-Davidson of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. (July 20)
