When it is linking too many speakers to the head unit alone one will need to be careful as it is dangerous for the cheap car audio equipment. The Alternators can be upgraded from the stock unit so that it can increase the current capability of the electrical system of the vehicle, often required of high-power wholesale car system components for the audio. Be Prepared for Temporary RV Repairs on the Road
Keep on Rollin’
Be prepared for temporary RV repairs on the Road
No one wants a minor RV breakdown to stop them cold in their tracks. It’s frustrating to hear the vacation time clock tick away because a “little” damage creates a long delay. But it doesn’t have to happen. Chances are a temporary repair can get you back on the road again without disturbing your plans. Just a few preparations and precautions can help you fix many kinds of minor damage that might otherwise ruin your trip. Sound too complicated? Not if you know what repair items to bring, how to make simple, on-the-spot repairs, what to expect from roadside assistance and how to keep your RV going until you can get it properly repaired at home.
Just about any RV owner can easily make temporary repairs, depending on how handy you are and the nature of the repair. But if you don’t feel comfortable attempting a minor repair, you can contact a mobile RV service that will come to your location to replace a broken windshield or make other small repairs.
Handy Things to Carry
In order to make temporary repairs, take these items with you on every trip: flashlight, jumper cables, trickle battery charger, road flares, adjustable wrench, various types of screwdrivers, hammer, pliers, pocket knife and duct tape for quick-fix repairs. Carry a few spare parts, especially for long trips. Include some spare belts, hoses, fuses and headlights. Even if you check these items before you leave, they can break at any time while traveling. Bring along a variety of screws, staples, nails, rivets and other fasteners. Also bring the common fluids your RV uses; for example, oil, transmission fluid and anti-freeze.
Make a solid, stable jack your number one piece of tire-changing equipment, then add a jack stand and wheel blocks. A hydraulic jack is easier to use than the kind that’s often supplied with RVs. Or, a leveling jack can also be used. Larger rigs should carry a 3/4-inch breaker bar with a socket that fits your vehicle’s lug nuts or lug bolts. You can get great leverage when you use the breaker bar to loosen or tighten nuts or bolts.
When you change a tire, make sure you’re well off the road and on a flat surface. Set up some flares or triangular reflectors if it’s dark, then block the rear wheels before you begin. Place a jack stand under the RV in case the jack gives way. Once your RV is lifted, don’t get underneath it. Use flat-tire spray only as a last resort. It may only fix your tire temporarily and may make the tire difficult or impossible to fully repair later.
You’ll also need two, easily accessible, 5BC, 2 1/2 lb. fire extinguishers. Check them before you leave to make sure they are charged and usable. Then familiarize yourself with their operation before your trip. If an engine fire occurs, it’s too late to learn how to use the extinguisher. Another important piece of equipment is a portable air compressor. It takes up little room and permits you to temporarily repair a slow tire leak. An air compressor only costs about $25, and you can also use it to inflate rafts, toys and other items without making a special trip to the service station.
Store large, strong trash bags and a lightweight painter’s polyethylene drop cloth in your RV, along with an ample amount of duct tape. Let’s say a sudden windstorm damages your RV’s roof. You can use plastic trash bags or the drop cloth and duct tape to keep leaking water out of your rig’s interior. You can also reduce water damage by putting vent covers on as soon as possible. The idea is to keep the water out of your RV to prevent it from getting into the walls or damaging carpet and upholstery.
An Ounce of Prevention
Experienced RVers know the value of preparing for emergencies or temporary repairs, and they also take precautions to avoid breakdowns on the road. For example, plan to make a stop every few hours to cool down your rig’s brakes and tires. At the same time, look under your motor home for leaking oil, transmission fluid or anti-freeze. Inspect hitches and your travel trailer’s suspension system. Look at the tires, then put your hand close to the tires to see if they’re hotter than they should be. Be careful not to put your bare hands on a hot tire. This could hurt! This is also a good time to check the radiator hose for cracking, but use caution — it’s hot in there.
If your RV is overloaded, it may overheat under some driving conditions. Overheating can occur in very hot weather or when climbing a grade. When the temperature gauge rises, turn off the air conditioner and shift to a lower gear if the minimum speed limit allows. You can also help lower the temperature if you pull off the road, put the gearshift in park, set the parking brake, leave the engine on, raise the hood and rev up the engine a little to get air through the radiator.
Also, consider adding a transmission cooler before your trip to help keep your transmission from overheating.
In Case of an Accident
Every RVer needs a pencil and pad of paper that lists what to do immediately after an accident. A mechanical pencil is best because a pen’s ink dries out over time and a regular pencil lead can break or wear down easily. Keep the pencil and paper in a plastic bag inside the glove compartment at all times.
List critical information about your insurance company, like the policy number and phone number, and who to contact in case of an emergency. Write these questions in your notebook: How can I contact the police department? Who is the other driver’s insurance company and what is his or her policy number? What is the other driver’s license plate number, full name, address and phone number? The notebook and a disposable 35 mm camera will help get the facts straight regarding damage from a collision.
After an accident, secure RV body parts if they are loose and save any parts that fall off. Never throw them away, because many parts are difficult to replace. That’s especially true for fiberglass siding and fiberglass on front and rear caps. Many RV fiberglass parts take six weeks or longer to obtain. And, sometimes they aren’t available at all. If you look at the NADA RV book, you’ll see that some manufacturers have gone out of business and fiberglass parts may not be readily available for these units.
Never let a repair facility throw away fiberglass pieces from the front cap or other areas on a motor home. Fiberglass is easier to repair than replace. When it’s replaced, factory seals can be disturbed. Just like a boat hull, the repaired section will be the strongest area of the cap once finished.
When small parts end up on the pavement after an accident, pick them up and put them in a covered plastic container, so grease and grime won’t get on your carpet. Chances are your repair will be better and faster when you’re able to save or secure all good parts. It’s a good idea to bring along extra plastic containers or empty coffee cans. Not only will they come in handy if you’re in an accident, but you can also store small parts or tools in them in the meantime.
Avoid Rip-Offs
After an accident, call the police first, then your insurance carrier. Don’t commit to major repairs unless you first check with your insurance company. The local insurance adjuster can help you find the right kind of repair service in a hurry. Be aware that the main source of RV repair rip-offs is the highway filling station/garage that depends on transient business. Many operators are completely honest, but some dishonest ones prey on RVers in crisis.
Finally, remember there’s no substitute for preventive maintenance. Before your next trip, take your RV for service to make sure all mechanical aspects and systems are in good shape. And, always be prepared for temporary repairs — just in case.

Energy Efficiency 101: Getting Started At Home
With gas and oil prices on the rise, many people are talking about energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources in the home. Some people automatically assume that making their home more energy efficient is going to cost a lot of money up front, but in reality that’s not the case. The first step in making your home more energy efficient is merely to improve your internal appliances and systems with a bit more thought. We’ll give you some simple rules that will make your home more comfortable, your fuel bills lower and your conscience lighter as you use less fossil fuels.
Rule # 1: Let There Be Light. We all need electricity but did you know that by using energy efficient LED lights and compact fluorescent bulbs in all of your home fixtures you could cut your energy use exponentially? For instance, one study found that merely by using LED lighting rather than traditional incandescent bulbs you could save 90% of home lighting energy consumption. In many cases, not only do fluorescent, LED and other energy efficient lighting options use less energy, they also last longer and are more durable. Yes, they may cost a little more up front, but you’ll see the value when they pay for themselves after a year or so of use and you can scratch light bulbs off your weekly list at the market or hardware store.
Rule # 2: Look at Your Appliances. As you review your electric load (or how much electricity you use to run your home) you should cast a glance at all of your appliances. Any that are very old and out of date, especially washers, dryers and refrigerators could all be costing you far more money than you think and taxing the environment to boot. When you look for appliances, try to find ones that are specifically designed to use less power and be more efficient. Not only will you probably be able to get some spiffy rebates, you’ll also be offsetting the cost of your new energy efficient appliance with the savings you’ll immediately see on your utility bills. Check out Energy Star’s website to find the most efficient models available for the appliance you’re looking to upgrade. Their website is www.EnergyStar.gov.
Rule # 3: Consider Your Climate. This relates not only to where you live and what your environment is like but also to how you regulate the temperatures in your home. First, is your home well insulated? If not, you are allowing in and letting out a lot of energy, heat and cold .Improving your insulation is one of the best and easiest ways to make your home more efficient. How are your windows? What can you do to retain heat in the winter and repel it in the summer? Also, if you have an attic, are you keeping it properly ventilated during the summer months? If it gets too hot up at the top of your house, your whole cooling system will have to work that much harder so you should consider installing a solar powered attic fan that will keep your attic well ventilated and moderate the overall temperature. A dry and ventilated attic is a happy one. Finally, how are you cooling your home in the summer? If you live in an arid climate and you are still using traditional air conditioning, you do have other options. Environmentally friendly evaporative coolers (or “swamp coolers”) are often just as effective and require a third of the power or less.
Rule # 4: Think Green. Whenever you make decisions about your major home systems in the future, think about installing systems that are more efficient and that could potentially be powered by an alternative energy source. If you have to sink a chunk of change into a new hot water heater, boiler or home heating system don’t just walk down the path of least resistance. It is possible that for a similar investment you could install a tank-less hot water heater or for a bit more money, install an energy efficient solar heating system in your home. It may seem far fetched, but when you see the monthly savings and you factor in the potential tax rebates and the money you would have spent either way, you’ll see how smart it can be. The key when looking at installing a solar power system or wind turbine system is that this is a long term investment, but you’ll actually see a return on it within as little as 2 to 6 years. By investing up front and ultimately off-setting your fossil fuel consumption your energy efficient hot water heater will actually pay for itself, unlike traditional fossil fuel dependent ones.
Rule # 5: If You Think You Are Ready, Review Rules 1-4. Even if you think you are ready today, right now to install solar panels or a wind turbine to power your home you need to make your home as energy efficient as possible FIRST. Why? Because, in general, for every $1 you spend on making your home more energy efficient you reduce the cost of your alternative energy system down by $3 to $5. Once you have reduced down your energy usage, you can accurately determine how much energy you will need to produce with renewable energy. Having this accurate information will tell you how many solar air heating collectors you need, solar water heating collectors your need, solar electric panels you need, or if you need a solar wind hybrid power system; if you can operate independently or if you need a grid-tie in system; and perhaps most importantly, how much you are going to spend to convert to renewable power.
So, start simple, invest wisely and think green and eventually you will be the self-powered, money saving, energy efficient one on the block.

Austin Healey Sprite Classic Car
Leaping into production in 1958, the Donald Healey Sprite was a low cost sports car which used existing BMC parts to ensure over heads of the cars productions remained low. The Austin Healey Sprite would prove to be a big success.
The commonly named “Austin Frogeye”, the Mark I Sprite, was a massive success in its three years of production, with no other car competing on price or performance. As its widely used nick name suggests, the distinctive look of the Mark I Sprite owed itself to the round headlamps on the bonnet of the car, nicked named “frog-eye” headlamps. Cheap and easy to maintain, the wings and bonnet was a one piece unit which opened up to allow easy and large access to the engine. The Mark I used the 948cc Austin A-Series engine which was tuneable and capable of 43bhp, the A35 gearbox and axels, and the twin SU carburettors. Equipped with leaf spring suspension to the front, and wishbone suspension to the rear, the Mark I got it suspension from earlier models such as the A35 and Moris Minor.
The Mark II saw some cosmetic changes including the famous headlamps being moved on to the wings, a change of rear bumper, and the introduction of front disc brakes. The Mark II was also equipped with a new larger engine from the Morris Minor 1000 and Morris Minor 1100, increasing the engine size to 1098cc.
A less performance geared Mark III Sprite was more fined with lockable doors, wind up windows, and quarter lights. With the rebadging of the Sprite by BMC to the Midget, the Sprite Mark III was also sold as the MG Midget Mark II.
The Mark IV had two main difference, with an increased capacity to 1275cc and a convertible roof instead of the removable roofs from the earlier variations.
The production of this classic car ended in 1971. Today many of this classic cars are known as “Spridgets” with the classic car enthusiasts community due to the Austin Healey Sprite and the MG Midgets sharing the same design and parts. This makes finding parts relatively easy due to the parts being interchangeable.

Definition of a Sports Car
A simple definition of a sports car is “a small low car with a high-powered engine, and generally seats two people”. This is more or less a “textbook” definition but gives us an idea of what the public perceives to be a sports car.
The Houghton Mifflin dictionary defines a sports car as: “An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds.” This dictionary definition does not seem to capture the general perception of what the public sees as a sports car.
The Houghton Mifflin definition of the “two seat rule” seems out-of-date. Many sports cars today offer small back seats (sometimes referred to as 2+2 seating) and there is a current movement underway to increase the seating room in models long considered sports cars by most automotive experts.
Insurance companies use their own formula in classifying automobiles and often the presence of two doors automatically makes any car a “sports car” in their eyes. This perspective, of course, is as overly simplistic as the standard dictionary approach to defining a sports car. One can certainly think of any number of two door vehicles that fall far short of being an actual sports car. Economy cars and even larger two-door vehicles that are not built with power and performance in mind should not qualify as true sports cars.
Some car buffs will refer to high-performance muscle cars and other larger vehicles as sports cars. Others, however, draw a distinction between these vehicles and “true” sports cars. These individuals will claim that a car can be a “sporting car” or simply “sporty” but still fall short of being a true sports car. Thus, “regular” cars may be outfitted with a “sports package” and/or accessories to make the car sportier, but may not fit a strict definition of a sports car.
Not all automotive enthusiasts, however, embrace this restrictive view of sports cars. In many circles, a sports car is any car offering greater performance or power than more standard offerings. This school of thought will consider muscle cars and other larger vehicles designed with performance in mind as sports cars.
Others will maintain that the distinction between a sports car and any other type of car lies in how the car’s suspension and handling are addressed. Technical debates rage over whether various suspension packages qualify as belonging to true “sports cars.”
Some will argue that a sports car can be defined by its intentions. If the car is designed for performance more so than for utility, they say, it is a sports car. This intent-based definition, however, provides little guidance in determining whether a car is a sports car or not. Particularly in the modern era, the notion of designing a car of any sort without significant consideration of its feasibility and utility seems unlikely. Any commercially viable vehicle, regardless of its performance, must retain significant utility.
Road and Track, a leading automotive publication, summarizes the sports card definition debate with a simple observation: “Ask five people the exact definition of a sports car, and you’ll likely get five different answers.”
There is no clear-cut definition of what really is a sports car. The restrictive definitions of the past seem ill suited to categorize today’s’ diverse automotive offerings and common usage of the term runs contrary to most long-held definitions.
There is, however, a common thought that seems to run through almost all of the outlooks on the meaning of “sports car.” If a car is designed with high performance or race-like capabilities in mind, it can probably be safely termed a sports car. Some purists may balk at such a liberal perspective, but alternative definitions fall far short of accurately distinguishing sports cars form regular production models.

Know your Atv Safety Tips!
Know your ATV safety tips!
ATVs are gaining a great popularity among youths, adults as well as children. Hence, the knowledge of ATV safety should be growing as well. While the CPSC is committed to doing its part in promoting the safety issues of an ATV, the consumers, parents, manufacturers, dealers and retailers must also work hand in hand on this issue too. Here are some ATV safety tips for you – in case you have long forgotten about them.
1. Sign up for a hands-on safety training course
A safety training course enables riders to learn how to control their ATVs in typical situations – and in most cases, most ATV drivers who have gone through such courses have a lower injury risks compared to those with no formal or proper training.
2. Wear your protective gears!
Many a time, ATV injuries are head injuries and unless you want to risk “losing your head” while you are enjoying a ride on your ATV, always make sure that you wearing your helmet. Wearing a helmet when you are riding your ATV reduces the severity of head injuries, in the event of an unforeseen accident. However, when buying the helmet, please remember to check if it is certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and/or the Snell Memorial Foundation. On top of that, we also highly recommend that you wear over-the-ankle boots, goggles, gloves, long pants and long sleeved shirts to protect yourself against unnecessary cuts and injuries from rocks, trees as well as other kinds of debris.
3. Two is a crowd on an ATV
Most ATVs are designed for one person (meaning the rider) only and this means that passengers are not allowed. ATVs drivers must be able to shift their weight freely in all directions while they are riding and it is important that the drivers are able to maintain a safe control over their ATVs, especially on varying terrains and having a passenger will make it difficult for drivers to control their ATVs.
4. ATV = off road riding
Tempting as it may be, but one should never ride an ATV on paved roads. The designs of ATVs are not made for paved road riding. Riding an ATV on paved roads could cost you your life if you collide with cars or other vehicles. There have been reports of many fatalities involving ATVs that occur on paved roads. Be smart, ride your ATV on off paved road!
5. Children should not be allowed on adult ATVs
If you want your children to ride on an ATV, get them to ride on the youth ATVs instead of an adult ATV. About one third of ATV related deaths and injuries involving children are those who were driving or riding on an adult ATV. If your child is under 16 years of age, we encourage you to forbid them from riding an adult ATV. Instead, have them ride on something that they will have better control of – the youth ATVs.
6. Never ride ATVs under the influence of alcohol or drugs
It goes without saying that if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you should never get behind any wheels – be it a car or an ATV. Alcohol and drugs messes up your reaction time and judgment – so stay off ATVs if you have consumed either one.
ATVs are not toys, and if you adhere to all the safety measures while you ride on one, you can be sure that you will be able to have fun and arrive safely. It’s all about knowledge and putting them into practice. If you want to put in your 2-cents worth about ATV safety, you can do so at the forum discussion board at www.jackel.com or www.atvoutdoors.net Gear up and ride safely!

are trying top drive. A similar car accessory would be to add a
playstation or an Xbox to your car with a television unit to
play on. This car accessory is not recommended because it can be
ever so distracting to the driver.
Another expensive, yet sometimes necessary car accessory is an
in dash GPS (global positioning system). A GPS helps many
drivers get to and from various locations. It is kind of like an
onboard automated map. A GPS can cost you between $500 and $1500
so you must decide on if you really need it. Another example of
an expensive car accessory is a radar detector. This helps
drivers know when a police officer may be nearby looking for
speeding cars. A radar detector alerts you so you can slow down
and avoid a speeding ticket. A radar detector is not really
needed unless you are the type of person who likes to speed.
Whether you want a car accessory to better personalize your car
or to help you avoid speeding tickets, you will surely have a
bunch to choose from. Take your time and seek out the one that
is best for you. There are a lot of places to go for car
accessories. Have fun and enjoy yourself while you shop.
